Recently, the International Magnesium Association announced the 2021 International Magnesium Association Automotive Casting Excellence Award at the 78th world magnesium industry conference. The award-winning project is the AZ91D magnesium alloy charger shell of Subaru crossrekhybrid plug-in hybrid vehicle (PHEV), which was jointly developed by Wanfeng Meridian and Subaru automobile company.
It is reported that the award-winning magnesium alloy parts are produced in Wanfeng Meridian's Shanghai factory and assembled in Japan. They have excellent heat dissipation performance and can be quickly charged at 240V. The parts are assembled by two AZ91D magnesium alloy castings, with weights of 1.56kg and 0.69kg respectively, replacing the two-piece aluminum castings, reducing the weight by 25%. The casting design of the magnesium alloy component provides low draft angle and thin-wall section, and self tapping threaded fasteners can be used to reduce the processing process. This is the first time that magnesium alloy material is used in the shell of vehicle charger, which shows more potential of magnesium in electric vehicles and fully demonstrates the lightweight technical strength of Wanfeng Meridian's "hard core".
As a global leader in the world magnesium alloy industry, Wanfeng Meridian has won the excellence award of the International Magnesium Association for many times. This award has further consolidated the company's leading position in the field of automotive lightweight. In the future, the company will continue to focus on the field of "big transportation", continuously improve the magnesium alloy lightweight technology, build brand advantages, open the global collaborative strategy, provide customers with high-quality magnesium alloy products, and help the high-quality development of global automobile lightweight technology and new energy automobile industry.
